Losing someone close to you can be emotionally devastating, it is an incredible painful process and will affect all of us at points in our life. It is a natural thing to go through, experiencing a range of physical and emotional processes as we gradually come to terms with the loss.

Bereavement affects people in different ways, there is no right way or wrong way to grieve. We can also feel grief for many other losses in life too, such as; changes in circumstance, a time of life we can never get back- the end of a relationship, life before lockdown, moving away, a decline in physical or mental health, the loss of a job, the loss of one’s fertility. Sometimes we can experience grief and not quite pinpoint what is causing it, we can just feel like we have lost something. Sometimes grief can turn into depression especially if the relationship you had with that person was a difficult one, or if you were dependent on that person.

A counsellor can be there for you to share your feelings with and can work through them with you, and help you process the loss and the relationship you had with that person.
