Frequently asked questions
Do you give me strategies’/advice and homework?
The short answer to this is, no. I work through free association, this means that you talk and express yourself freely without censorship, this aids in gaining access to your unconscious.
How long will it take before I feel better?
There is no quick fix, counselling is a process and it cannot be rushed. It’s not just about finding the answers, it’s also dependent on your readiness to hear and process what is in your unconscious. It is also about building trust and experiencing that new relationship together. It is one thing to intellectually understand yourself but a whole other thing to feel and experience something emotionally. Therefore, I cannot say how long it will take. The counselling usually comes to a natural end when; symptoms have lessened, when your relationships have improved, when you have a greater sense of self and worth, and when you have internalized me as your counsellor in such a way that you feel better equipped to contain yourself and life’s challenges.
What if I cannot make my session?
If you give me 48 hours’ notice then you will not be charged. However, it is important that you commit yourself to weekly sessions as it is part of the process.
Are sessions structured?
No, sessions are guided by you, it is your space to use how you like. We go at your pace and i will actively listen closely to what you bring.
How many sessions will I need?
I work mostly on an open-ended basis and when the time feels right for you we would work towards an ending. However, i also offer short-term work for those who want to work on a specific conflict and set of symptoms. This would need to be specified at the start of the work so we can plan for an end date.
If you have any more questions or concerns i will be happy to discuss them in your initial assessment. Please feel free to get in touch. Thank you for visiting my website.
